BYD E6 gets make over – becomes more handsome

In the face of ever increasing oil prices some companies stepped up and produced EV’s, GM produced the Volt, Nissan made the Leaf, Honda tried another route with a hybrid sports car that the everyday man could afford, Tesla threw caution to the wind and made a super car for super salary owners.BYD on the other hand, realized that the average Chinese consumer wanted to save money and get better range from an EV, so they made the E6 EV.

The first E6 was not exactly shouting “take my money” but this revised version is looking a lot more handsome around the front and rear ends than its predecessors. The original model looked like it was three years too late to the market in terms of design, but the below model is certainly showing a 22nd century vehicle.

From what we understand, this version is the E6B where as the version that has already been put into service in taxi fleets is referred to as E6A, the E6B is the version that will be aimed squarely at consumers. When consumers might be able to buy the E6 directly is still a mystery, despite strong government support for the development of an EV industry the lack of charging stations has clearly been a major obstacle in the industry.

The eBUS pure electric bus is another masterpiece of BYD’s in the field of electrified transportation. The eBUS is 12 meters long, and the whole design is oriented around ease of customer transport. The specially designed in-wheel drive and the electronically controlled air suspension makes the eBUS with low-floor and ample space to allow easy passenger loading and unloading. The front windscreen occupies 2/3 of the front face of the bus for maximum viewing and safety. The silver body with black side windows gives the eBUS an elegant exterior, while the interior boasts exquisite adjustable leather seating for driver plus high-quality red and black leather seats for passengers. Carefully engineered sound insulation for a quiter cabin experience.

As BYD’s first pure electric bus, the eBUS employs many advanced technologies developed by BYD itself. For example, The “Fe” battery. used on eBUS is non-polluting, and the chemical materials contained in the battery can be recycled. The solar cells installed on top of eBUS can supply more power to supplement the Fe battery. Also, the trip computer information to the driver to make the driver clear about every working condition while driving.

SMRT’s Executive Vice President, Ms Teo Chew Hoon said, “In our day-to-day operations at SMRT, we look into air, water and energy management diligently. To further promote better air quality, we are exploring the use of all-electric vehicles in our bus and taxi fleets and are pleased to announce our MOU with BYD, one of the world’s leading green technology companies.”
The BYD eBUS-12 and the e6 all-electric Taxis are a leap forward in transportation technology and both can travel up to 300KM with a single electric charge – the longest range available in the market. At the core of the eBUS and e6 (a 5-seat crossover all-electric vehicle) technology are BYD’s Iron Phosphate or “Fe” battery technologies.  The Fe battery boasts the highest safety, longest service life and most environmentally friendly rechargeable chemistry.  Integrating the “Fe” battery, the eBUS and e6 can travel up to 300 kM in range per charge.  The BYD e6 has been used as taxis in Shenzhen, China for over a year now and is referenced in the recent “BYD Fleet Summary” released April 29th, 2011.  The fleet of 50 e6 Shenzhen taxis, in service since May 2010, have now surpassed 3 million kilometers in cumulative fleet miles.  “The successful operation of the e6 taxis in Shenzhen for over a year now has proven the reliability of these EVs and our battery technology” according to Stella Li, SVP of BYD.
