BYD Acquires TÜV Rheinland Certificate for EV Charging Facility

Shenzhen, P.R.China Mar. 23, 2012, TÜV Rheinland Group rewarded BYD with the security certification of its electric vehicle charging facility, which made BYD the first one in China being certified in this EV area. Hereby, BYD EV charger is allowed to enter into the international market; this will help to realize the large-scale commercialization of electric vehicles. Mr. Holger Kunz, the Vice President of Greater China Region of TÜV Rheinland Group, certified Mr. Luo Hongbin, the Vice President of BYD Co., Ltd. on certification ceremony held in BYD headquarters.

Before the certification, BYD EV chargers have been put into actual operation. “ During the Universiade 2011 in Shenzhen, BYD EV chargers successfully took on the task of charging 200 BYD electric buses, assuring the smooth operation of bus fleet.“ Mr. Luo illustrated. BYD EV DC charger is also used to charge BYD e6, the first pure electric vehicle launched in China. In addition, BYD independently researched and develped EV chargers have been exported to European and American countries. World leading control algorithm is deployed on BYD EV chargers, enabling them not only fulfill the basic charging function, but also realize the peak shifting regulation and bidirectional energy regeneration. In this case, the efficiency, safeguard procedure and reliability of BYD EV chargers outclass that of other competitors.

 Large amount of BYD electric vehicles are running in China; the certification of TÜV Rheinland will accelerate the large-scale commercial operation of BYD electric vehicles globally. Mr. Luo supplemented: “Starting from pilot projects, BYD electric vehicles are stepping into large-scale commercial operation. As the essential equipment in EV industry, the advancement and reliability of EV charger play significant roles.” From 2010, BYD has started to launch 300 e6s and 200 electric buses to Shenzhen public transportation fleet. In this March, Mr. Wang Rong, the Secretary of Shenzhen Municipal Party Committee, once asked Shenzhen civil servants to take the lead to use BYD electric vehicles. Shenzhen Development and Reform Commission (SDRC) also announced that “The addition to Shenzhen new energy public transportation fleets will include 1000 pure electric buses and 500 pure electric taxies, all manufactured by BYD.” In overseas market, BYD pure electric vehicles are also performing excellently. The pilot bus project just started with Veolia Transport in Finland, and other EV projects in Frankfurt, Singarpore and Los Angeles all indicate that BYD EV business is going worldwide.
